Composite sunshields have been specifically engineered for shipboard-ready service lockers (RSL), addressing the need for effective solar protection while minimizing maintenance requirements. Traditionally, RSLs are equipped with white sunshields to shield the locker from solar loading, creating an air gap offset to prevent direct exposure. However, these sunshields are often powder-coated and prone to rust, which requires frequent maintenance. In response, a composite material version has been developed and rigorously qualified. This innovative solution allows for the purchase of thermoplastic composite material sheet stock, enabling the fabrication of sunshields in any desired size or shape.
